SLCAN’s Endorsements and Recomendation
SLCAN ENDORSES Morgan Mack-Rose
for the At-Large position on the Board of Trustees for the San Leandro Unified School District.
Mack-Rose has been exceptionally active in our schools. Her work has already impacted and improved her local school site as well as San Leandro schools district-wide. Morgan has proven herself to be a strong organizer and collaborator as shown by her work on Measure B, her initiative in the Kids Save The Planet Festival at Washington Elementary, as PTA president, and on the budget advisory committee and Parents Leaders' Council. She actively pursues effective solutions and is a fast learner.
Mack-Rose has clearly spelled out her priorities; the high drop out rate, teacher/administration relationship issues, parental engagement and support, and fiscal scrutiny. These are all policies we support and believe Mack-Rose's approach will be effective. We also encourage Mack-Rose to work toward greater transparency.
We expect Mack-Rose's enthusiasm and commitment will continue once elected to the Board. Her record of hands-on involvement and taking initiative contrasts dramatically with her opponents. We strongly encourage a vote for Mack-Rose.

SLCAN RECOMMENDS a vote for Hermy Almonte
for the San Leandro Unified School District Board of Trustees for Area 1.
During his relatively brief residency in San Leandro Mr. Almonte has demonstrated tremendous civic activism. Almonte is a particularly strong supporter of our public schools. He has been an ardent advocate for English Language Learners, a large and integral part of our student and parent community. Almonte is offering “positive change’ for the District through his goal of better collaboration with San Leandro families, something that Almonte has substantial experience with in his own job as a manager of affordable housing. SLCAN is mindful that Almonte is new to the world of politics, but considering the incumbent’s inability to provide better leadership in teacher contract negotiations, and his utter lack of oversight of the District’s legal bills, we believe that Hermy’s promise of “positive change” may be just what is needed to move our schools in a new and better direction.
